Why We Need a Google -1 Button

Ya you have heard it.

I need a Google -1 button .Immediately.

Before Telling Why let me explain what Google +1 Do here

Google Plus 1 is the Search giant’s “New button based Social Website ranking theme”. It works like

Am clicking a +1 button on www.imdb.com and it will be stored on my Google Profile. If any Persons who are related to me like my chat contacts, Email Contacts, Buzz Contacts,  Orkut?! Contacts searches for same information  about movie reviews  imdb.com result will come first and will say Tech nut A.K.A  Vivek iyer +1’d this

Plain.

Simple.

Brilliant?????

No.There comes a Problem.

Let me Tell Why Google Went For +1.   Google’s Social failures are disastrous and well known. Some Examples

  •     Google Wave( We can only see waves in oceans now): Result ->RIP
  •    Google’s Orkut (Only Spammers Use this) Result : Humiliation to Core
  •    Google Buzz(Copy Of twitter) Result :-> Unknown
  •     Dodgeball(Have u heard it?) Result RIP
  •     Jaiku(Twitter Like Model)Result : WTF?

After this much of Disastrous Flops most people thought that Google won’t attempt anything new on Social Sphere

But. There is Facebook which is Giving Larry page sleepless nights. Facebook’s Like/Share/Recommend Button is used in 20% percentage of All those sites in whole internet.Let me Tell it again 20% percent of internet bluntly uses Facebook one way or other.Facebook’s Social graph is like a huge Tsunami washing eveny Piece of information in this world . Like buttons are in Private Beta testing sites and even in currently under construction pages. So Larry Page’s fear is

  •  What happens if Facebook creates a “likes Ranking algorithm“and destroys his “Page ranking Algorithm”?
  •  What happens if People Started using Social Search instead of Static Web Search(Google’s Search)

In addition to these things there are some other things which are considered by Google as a threat

  •      Bing’s Partnership with  Facebook
  •     Twitter’s Huge Manual Data
  •      It can’t acquire Facebook or twitter

So the only option for Google till date to compete with Facebook, twitter and other social networks is the Google +1 button

But is it good enough

I would say it’s good. But not enough. What happens if I don’t like a site and eventually wants to bury those results from Google. I know that at least 40% of my friends wont  like that result either.Even though There are number of ways to block a search result there is unfortunately no way for me to tell my friends that “I don’t think that site would be helpful”.

And there Comes Google -1 button.

If I don’t like a result .i would simply click the -1 button and it will be showed on my friend’s search like Vivek Iyer -1’d this site.Oh Common Y not.If we can tell that a result is usefull why we cant tell our friends that the result is useless

Ya you can argue that Even Facebook Don’t have those kind of options .But there is a big difference

Suppose that

If am visiting the site like http://techcrunch.com I would definitely press the like button and share it on my profile and my friends obviously would consider visiting that site

If am visiting a site like www.xxxyyy.com and I if I don’t like that site I won’t even consider moving my mouse to like button. No like -> no share-> no friends would be visiting that site from my profile .simple

But Search is different .I got  40-50 Colleagues who were working on the same domain and we are doing same type of work. So the probability that ” I don’t like that result then  my collegues wont like it too is higher “. And if I like a result most probably they would like it too .

Even the -1 button would help google to rearrange its ranking algorithms is more peple have -1’d it.

So Google if You want your search to be truly Social Better try Google -1.(and even it flops .Lets add that to your list of flops in Social sphere)
